Online Physio Consults
Accessing essential health services is not always convenient or possible, which is why Goldfields Physio proudly offers online physiotherapy services to all our clients – whether it be in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, the greater Goldfields Region or around Australia.
Online consultations are an effective way to meet with one of our expert physiotherapists or exercise physiologist from the comfort of your own home. Our experts will help you get clarity on your injury, get you out of pain, and create a plan to get you back to doing what you love doing as fast as possible. With the growing demand for convenience and in-home services, this is the next evolution of physiotherapy services.
Our online physiotherapy consultations empower you to take control of your pain and to get amazing results. You may be surprised by just how effective online consultations can be. Recent research showing that they are a viable alternative to in person consultations for people who have musculoskeletal injuries or pain. This means you can benefit from the same long-term outcomes for a wide range of conditions.
We understand that sessions via the internet may seem counterintuitive at first. And we understand the main reason you come to see a physiotherapist or exercise physiologist isn’t because you are in pain, it’s because that pain is now preventing you from doing something that is important or necessary in your life. But there’s a common misconception that you need hands on treatment from your therapist to feel better. We now have extensive research that shows that we can help you achieve the exact same result without putting a hand on you. The most important thing is that you hit your goal and can do everything you’d like to in life without restriction. We are 100% confident that our online health services can help you to attain this.
Who is this online service ideal for?
Online physiotherapy and exercise physiology consults are ideal for people who:
- Would like to save time, avoid dealing with commuting and have the convenience of expert healthcare in their own home
- Are unable to attend the clinic location due to extenuating circumstances
- Don’t have access to physiotherapists or exercise physiologists where they live, like in rural and remote Australia
- Don’t like the physical touch involved in an in-person session
- Have restrictions, such as injury or disability, which prevent them from travelling
- Have been given a diagnosis, but would like an expert second opinion
What does an online consult look like?
We empathise that being in pain can be a confusing and frustrating experience, which is often made worse by all of the conflicting information on the internet regarding your specific issue or injury.
We aim to simplify the process from start to finish so you will feel comfortable from day one knowing you are in good hands and we pride ourselves on being world class listeners; because we know the biggest frustration for most patients in healthcare is not being listened to properly.
Online physio consults will help you get you out of pain fast … all from the comfort of your own home!
While our online exercise physiology consults can help enhance you health, fitness and mobility.
Prior to your online consult we will:
- Have you fill in a health screening form to learn a bit about you & ensure your specific issue is suitable for a consultation
- Ensure you have the appropriate system on your device for the online consultation
Once on the video consult your Physiotherapist will find out and provide clarity on:
- Your goals (what is the meaningful change you are looking for)
- What’s wrong (the likely diagnosis)
- Why it is there (education of the root cause of your issue)
- An individualised plan to achieve your goals
We will then provide the treatment, advice, education and rehabilitation exercises needed to get you out of pain and back to what you love doing as fast as possible.
How does it work?
Your private and individual sessions are conducted ultilising secure telehealth technology, which you will need to download and install prior to the session. It is a low bandwidth system.
It can be conducted on a variety of devices, including your Apple or Android phone, tablet or laptop. We recommend utilising Chrome.
You will need to download an app … but don’t worry we will provide you with step by step instructions prior to your appointment to help with all the “techy” stuff.

Online rehabilitation programming
Rehabilitation programs are an essential part of successful management plans. One of our main roles, after we have helped to decrease your pain, is to design a rehabilitation plan that slowly transitions you back into the type of activity you’d like to be doing. This controlled progression of movement and exercise can be done very effectively with online programming, with our large range of online exercises. If you need any supportive exercise equipment, don’t worry we can facilitate delivery of these low cost items via Post.
The easiest way to understand the importance of progressive / graduated exposure in movement, exercise or loading is this:
Imagine you are going to go for a 10 kilometre run, and you don’t run really at all. Now if you jumped straight into the 10-kilometre run it would be very likely that you would experience pain or discomfort that day or the next. However, if you were to start with 1 kilometre and build your tolerance up over a 12-week period to then run 10 kilometres, it is likely you would have little to no issue with this run. The same is true with any activity, we must gradually increase the load that your body can handle. This makes your body more robust and resilient!
Online physiotherapy and chronic pain
It may surprise you to learn that online treatment is one of the most effective strategies for chronic pain. It is effective because it eliminates the possibility of reliance on passive therapy (manual therapy) from the physiotherapist. In a chronic pain state, one of the biggest risk factors in not improving is a reliance on your therapist for pain relief, the feeling as though you are in the passenger of your healthcare journey. We aim to put you back in the driver’s seat, with thorough advice and education. In chronic pain there are many factors at play, however it can be reassuring to know that the structures, like the disc in your back that was the original issue, is no longer the actual cause of the pain. In chronic pain, your brain has maladapted over time to recognise certain movements as dangerous and therefore cause the sensation of pain. As mentioned above in the online rehabilitation program section, our role in this issue is to gradually expose you to these movements and activities over time., We help your brain to adapt positively to perform these movements without pain.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Can I claim private health?
Unfortunately at this time you can’t claim your online consults on your private health. The Australian Physiotherapy Association has released the following statement regarding health insurers:
“There is growing consumer demand for access to video-consultation services provided by physiotherapists. Despite evidence to suggest that video consultations are cost effective, safe and well-received by consumers, private health insurers do not provide a rebate for physiotherapy services delivered via video consultation. This exacerbates existing access issues for many consumers, including those who live in rural and remote locations and those with significant mobility issues, e.g., consumers with neurological conditions who have limited capacity to travel.”

What does a session cost?
An online physiotherapy consult at Goldfields Physio is $120 for a comprehensive initial appointment and $90 for any follow up appointments.
How do we communicate online?
Sessions are performed using an app from your computer or tablet. We will provide you an email with how to get this app
How can a physiotherapist treat me online?
You may be wondering how online physiotherapy services works, because the general perception of what a physiotherapist does is hands-on manual therapy work with you, the client, on the bed. And if this was still the crux of our role as physiotherapists then you would be absolutely correct, however there is now a large body of evidence to show that active rehabilitation (exercise therapy) is the most effective tool to ensure you become empowered to be pain free long term; exercise is medicine.
How do I pay for my online physiotherapy consultation?
We require payment prior to your consultation which can be taken over the phone.
Can I claim Medicare for online physio consults?
No, Medicare does not offer rebates for telehealth services at this stage.
Can I use NDIS for online physiotherapy consults?
Yes, you can use your NDIS funding. We currently only have the capacity to work with self-managed and plan managed NDIS clients.
As stated on the Australian Physiotherapy Association website, The World Health Organisation has declared the coronavirus (COVID-19) a pandemic requiring a global coordinated effort.
As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues to evolve, we anticipate an increase in the demand for online physiotherapy services to maintain your well-being whilst protecting you from the possible risk of infection through community transmission. We will be increasing our scope of telehealth physiotherapy services to ensure we can meet this demand and continue to serve our community.
